My name is Paul Nowak, and I’m a hobbyist woodworker from Sheffield, in jolly old England. My new woodworking venture has been a resounding success! I built a beautiful, sleek, black-painted bar almost entirely of pallets and scraps of wood. I’ve always wanted to make a home garden bar, as we spend family time in the backyard. Once I put everything together, the bar took two days to build.
I’ve always wanted a bar in the backyard so I got some pallets and knocked it together.
This little DIY project cost me only about 90 pounds (112 dollars). Once I had all the supplies I needed for the bar, the actual building part was pretty quick— it only took me a couple of days, from start to finish. I got most of the supplies I wanted for free: pallets and crates cost absolutely nothing. Nonetheless, I did have to spend some money on the roof (that was around 40 pounds or 50 dollars), the paint (around 30 pounds; 37 dollars), and some odds and ends. My good mate owns a pub, so he gave me some beer mats and many things for free.
It took me a several days after I got all the stuff to put it together
I’ve always liked woodwork, I should have done it when I left school
I have set up a working refrigerator in my bar, so all my drinks will stay nice and cool, and I don’t need to sprint into the kitchen every time I feel a little thirsty. I’ve always loved woodworking, and sometimes I wonder what’s going to happen if I took it seriously after I left school. I do deck for friends and family, but this is the very first bar I’ve created.
But it’s just the first of a lot of pubs, I expected. My friends and family enjoyed my project, and it was amazing how people responded to my online bar. I have already received more than 47,000 likes and 75,000 posts. All I need is a partner or a company to help me keep this going.

40 [pounds] for the roof…with only paint (about £30) it was 80 or 90 [pounds]
My friend’s got his own bar so he gave me all the beer mats
This is the first bar I have done – first of many I expected
My friends and family love it!
My bar got some attention, including Celtic Marches Beverages. They loved it so much that they stocked it full of delicious drinks. Congrats!
